"Back to the Drawing Board"

Meaning
Ever had something not go as planned, forcing you to scrap everything and start over? That’s exactly what “back to the drawing board” means. When your initial attempt fails, it's time to go back, rethink, and try again.

Origin
This phrase likely came from World War II. It was first popularized in a 1941 cartoon by Peter Arno in The New Yorker, showing an engineer walking away from a crashed plane with the line, “Well, back to the drawing board.” The idea is simple: when things don’t work out, sometimes you just have to start fresh.

Use in Pop Culture
In The Simpsons (Season 6, Episode 25), Homer famously uses this phrase when one of his outlandish plans inevitably falls apart. It’s the perfect reminder that, in life, failure often just means it’s time to regroup and try again.
